Complete guides for installing and using our MetaTrader products.

Quick Start Guide

  1. Purchase a product from our Products page
  2. Download the product file from your Dashboard
  3. Copy the file to your MetaTrader data folder
  4. Restart MetaTrader
  5. Attach the product to a chart and enter your license credentials

Installation Guide - MetaTrader 5

Step 1: Locate the Data Folder

Open MetaTrader 5 and go to File → Open Data Folder. This will open the folder where MT5 stores its files.

Step 2: Copy the Product File

Navigate to the appropriate subfolder based on the product type:

  • Expert Advisors: MQL5/Experts/
  • Indicators: MQL5/Indicators/
  • Scripts: MQL5/Scripts/

Copy the downloaded .ex5 file into the appropriate folder.

Step 3: Restart MetaTrader

Close and reopen MetaTrader 5 completely. The product will now appear in the Navigator panel under the corresponding section.

Step 4: Enable Algo Trading

For Expert Advisors, make sure to:

  • Click the "Algo Trading" button in the toolbar (it should be green)
  • Go to Tools → Options → Expert Advisors
  • Check "Allow algorithmic trading"
  • Check "Allow DLL imports" if required by the product

Step 5: Attach to Chart

Drag the product from the Navigator panel onto your chart, or double-click it. A settings window will appear where you can enter your license key and API key.

Installation Guide - MetaTrader 4

Step 1: Locate the Data Folder

Open MetaTrader 4 and go to File → Open Data Folder. This will open the folder where MT4 stores its files.

Step 2: Copy the Product File

Navigate to the appropriate subfolder based on the product type:

  • Expert Advisors: MQL4/Experts/
  • Indicators: MQL4/Indicators/
  • Scripts: MQL4/Scripts/

Copy the downloaded .ex4 file into the appropriate folder.

Step 3: Restart MetaTrader

Close and reopen MetaTrader 4 completely. The product will now appear in the Navigator panel.

Step 4: Enable Auto Trading

For Expert Advisors:

  • Click the "AutoTrading" button in the toolbar (it should be green)
  • Go to Tools → Options → Expert Advisors
  • Check "Allow automated trading"
  • Check "Allow DLL imports" if required

Step 5: Attach to Chart

Drag the product from the Navigator panel onto your chart. Enter your license key and API key in the settings window.

Finding Your Credentials

Your license key and API key can be found in your dashboard:

Entering Credentials

When you attach a product to a chart, look for the "Inputs" tab in the settings window. Enter:

  • License_Key - Your product license key
  • API_Key - Your account API key

Activation Status

After entering valid credentials, the product will verify your license online. A successful activation message will appear in the Experts tab of the Terminal panel. If activation fails, check your credentials and ensure you have an active internet connection.

Troubleshooting

Product not appearing in Navigator

  • Ensure you copied the file to the correct folder (MQL4 vs MQL5)
  • Restart MetaTrader completely
  • Right-click in the Navigator panel and select "Refresh"
  • Check if the file extension is correct (.ex4 for MT4, .ex5 for MT5)

License activation failed

  • Verify your license key and API key are correct
  • Check your internet connection
  • Ensure your license hasn't expired
  • Make sure you haven't exceeded activation limits
  • Try resetting your session from the dashboard

EA not trading

  • Check that AutoTrading/Algo Trading is enabled (green button)
  • Verify the EA is allowed to trade in its properties
  • Check the Experts tab for error messages
  • Ensure the symbol and timeframe match the EA's requirements
  • Verify your broker allows automated trading

WebRequest errors

  • Go to Tools → Options → Expert Advisors
  • Check "Allow WebRequest for listed URL"
  • Add our API URL: https://fxutility.com
